Granny's Lasagne

"There is nothing that says 'welcome home' quite like the smell of Granny’s lasagna wafting through the kitchen. This recipe has been the centerpiece of our family Sunday dinners for decades."

Ingredients

Preparation

  1. Brown the Meat & Veggies: Heat oil in a large skillet. Brown the ground beef until cooked through. Add the onion, carrots, and zucchini, and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Simmer the Sauce: Stir in the tomato paste, garlic, and pasta sauce. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian herbs. Let it simmer for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Prepare the Cheese Mix: In a small bowl, stir together the ricotta and the egg until smooth.
  4. Layer the Lasagna:
    • Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
    • Place a layer of lasagna sheets on top.
    • Spread a layer of the ricotta mixture, then meat sauce, and a sprinkle of mozzarella.
    • Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a thick layer of meat sauce, mozzarella, and parmesan on top.
  5. Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 30–40 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbling.

Pro Tip: Let the lasagna rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing. This helps the layers stay together when serving.
